What should I wear & how to prepare for the treatment?

During all treatments you'll be fully clothed! Ideally, you want to wear something loose that allows for some movement & is comfortable for you. You will be required to wear a mask from the time you enter the treatment space till you leave.

You are welcome to bring your own mask, or alternatively we will provide one for you.

Upon arrival you will be required to fill out a waiver and intake form (if it is your first visit). Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, if it is your first appointment with us. That'll give you time to fill in the required forms. 

In order for you to receive the greatest benefit out of your treatment, it is recommended that you do not consume alcohol or use drugs prior to the treatment and avoid eating big meals an hour before. 

What are the precautions & procedures you're taking due to COVID-19?

The safety and health of our clients is our #1 priority. This is why we ask all clients and staff to wear a mask at all times during the treatment. We also provide hand sanitizer for everyone entering the treatment space. 

For extra safety we invested in a high quality air purifier for the treatment space, and are using Health Canada certified cleaning and sanitizing products. In addition we schedule extra time between clients to sanitize surfaces and equipment that has been in contact. 

All clients that book an appointment will be "pre-screened". That means that we'll check in with you before your appointment to make sure you're well and without any symptoms that could potentially be related to COVID-19. If you are sick, we'll ask you to reschedule your appointment. 

Our cancellation policy accommodates the case that you need to cancel with short notice due to illness.

What's your Cancellation Policy?


When you book an appointment with us, that time is allotted for you – and ONLY you. We do our best to always be ready for you when you arrive. In return, we ask that you keep your promise to us and show up for your appointment on time. You can manage your booking through the booking page by signing in with your phone number, or open the booking confirmation that was send to you via text and email.

We ask that you please cancel/ reschedule your appointment at least 24h in advance.  For appointments cancelled less than 24 h in advance we may charge the full cost of the treatment booked.

If you are ill, we ask you to please stay home and reschedule your appointment. If you need to cancel your appointment less than 24 h in advance, please contact Anika at 604-351-5272 (text or call) and you'll be assisted with rescheduling your appointment. Thank you.

What payment options are available?

We accept cash (if you have exact change), credit card, etransfer, cheque.

Suggestions for after the treatment?

We recommend to drink plenty of water (ideally warm or at room temperature with a splash of lemon) or herbal tea. This will allow for proper elimination of toxins. Rest and take it easy for the rest of the day. You might even want to have a nap. I encourage you to listen in with yourself and respond to your needs. Even though the session is over, the body-mind needs time to adjust to the energetic changes that have been facilitated. 

What is a Healing Crisis?

Also known as the “Herxheimer Reaction”, a healing crisis occurs when the body tries to eliminate toxins at a faster rate than they can be disposed of. The more toxic one’s bodily systems are, the more severe the detoxification experience, or healing crisis. This reaction signifies that the bodywork received is working and that your body is going through the process of cleaning itself of impurities, toxins and imbalances. While a healing crisis is temporary, it can occur immediately, or within several days after a bodywork session. Symptoms usually pass within several days.

  • Dizziness and light-headedness

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Low-grade fever

  • Joint and muscle aches

  • An odd or metallic taste in the mouth

  • Muscle cramps

  • Skin eruptions

  • Intense emotional states

  • Increased sweating, urination or defecation

If you experience any of these symptoms after a treatment, please follow the "After Treatment Suggestions" above. Also, add additional fiber-rich foods to your diet. The fiber will help to eliminate toxins through the stool.

You also want to rule out: low blood sugar, pregnancy or starting to get sick. Those conditions could also be responsible for the symptoms. 

Will I be able to claim treatments for reimbursement with my insurance?

Anika is a member with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada & Shiatsu Therapy Association of BC. Therefore, you might be able to claim Shiatsu and Acupressure treatments with your insurance provider. If coverage is important to you, please contact your Extended Health company to confirm with them before receiving your treatment!

Extended Health companies that offer Shiatsu with selected plans:

  • Great-West Life

  • Green Shield Canada

  • Johnson Insurance

  • Manulife

  • Sun Life

  • SSQ Financial

NHPC advises that Shiatsu clients who have coverage for Shiatsu services in their plans with the above insurance companies will have their claims reimbursed. I recommend that you confirm your coverage with your plan administrator before submitting claims for Shiatsu services.

Extended Health companies that offer Acupressure with selected plans:

  • Blue Cross

  • possibly others

NHPC has recently advised that for those clients who have “extended health or 3rd party insurance”; they may be able to be reimbursed for acupressure sessions. Two categories of general health and spa relaxation will accept acupressure receipts for reimbursement. Please contact your provider to ask about it!

If your provider doesn't yet offer coverage for Shiatsu and Acupressure, please ask for it!
